I own the sport jacket in the picture, and are considering the plaided pants, which will fit nicely with a coulple of my jackets.

I would, though, also like to be able to wear these pretty expensive pants with the jacket. But is that a go or no go? The pants look grey on distance, but close by you would recognize the checkered pattern.
I tried googling the subject but didnt find a clear answer.
(Sorry, English is not my first language).

I don't think two different plaid fabrics are going to work together, not in this case. In my opinion you should go for plain pants in light grey, navy or olive.

Yeah, I thought so too, to be honest.
Just wondering if there were any specific guide lines ..

You should create some contrast, unless you are wearing a suit. I think a plain wool pant would work great with that coat.

I totally agree.
But if you watch this childly well made photoshop attachement, do you agree that my jacket and the new pants do contain the necessary contrast?

Question is the pattern.
If 2 times plaid will be intolerable..

The scale on the pants is small enough that at a distance, it doesn't seem to clash. However, I'd still avoid the possibility by wearing solid pants.

I have to agree, even though I really like the pants and can only afford one pair.
Thanks!

Pattern on the torso, plain colour on the legs. And vice versa.
That's what I generally use, and I would apply that to these pieces as well.

The DB jacket looks great, and will (in my opinion) the most classy when combined with plain olive pants.
