I dont see any thread on simple questions like on the streetwear forum.

so here is my question

does a placket on the front of an overcoat like this one, bring down the formality of the jacket?

this one is a bit strange, as the placket is stitched not contrast, but it is visible on its line down and curved to where it ends.

thanks if you know

Honest answer - I don't know.

But in general, I would say hidden buttons are more formal on overcoats than visible buttons. But the visible stitching on that coat cancels that out. Overall, I'd wear that particular overcoat for more for casual-wear than business wear but it could do both. The short length makes it functionally less useful though.

what you speak of here is called a "fly front". its just as formal as a button through. although imo the stitching you describe spoils the effect.
