Since a friend of mine had an opera premiere in Paris this weekend, I spent aa couple of days in that wondeful city. At LeCoultre I saw a most distinguished couple. He must have been around 60 and she was a couple of years younger (maybe around 50) and they still talked. Both were turned out extremly well. Their clothes, jewellery and accessoires were the finest (and most expensive) money can buy but without being flashy in the slightest. They also behaved very civilised, not drawing any attention on them whilst they were in the shop, no big gestures, no loud talk, no pretention. They left before me but when I stepped outside I saw them driving away as seen blow. Now, I can only say that these people were among the closest to true and natural style I have ever seen. Only hope remains that I will be getting even close to that when I am that age. Since the picture I took of the scene has come out quite nicely I thought I'd share my moment. [IMG]

I do love Place vendome because it is not only elegant and classy but also an haven of peace away from the buzz of Opera and place de la Concorde...

It's a beautiful place. Did you order some shirts at Charvet?

No, I am not really a fan of their shirts. They seem to be made in the british fashion without any (or with little) hand-work. I prefer the Italians. Their basket weave ties are among my favourites, though.

What a fantastic photo. DB6 I think? It's been many years since I visited Paris. Would the Ritz be to the rear of the car (ie - if the driver were to look back over his left shoulder) with Charvet cat corner across the square?

Yes. If he turns right, he'll get to the Louvre area - if he turns left he'll be heading towards the Opera area

These people sounded stylish and it's especially augmented by their vintage car.

What types of accessories did they have? Vintage luxury goods?

Man, what I would give for that car (and the whole lifestyle for that matter). Being able to walk out of LeCoultre with a beautiful lady and some vintage accessories must be glorious.

At first, I thought it was a vintage shot from the 60's. But then I saw the modern cars in the background. Great picture.

I'm headed there next week for a few days, and hoping all the elegance won't have departed for holiday yet.

As nice as Paris is, I suspect stilmacher's elegant experience was a rare one even for Europe.

This is true. Of course, you'll increase your odds if you're hanging around LeCoultre. But go into a Carrefour, and you'll feel right at home.

I've been to Carrefour in Shanghai and it was really mad although I have to say, the crowds were better dressed than say, a Costco.

And that's relevant to France why? Does Carrefour impose cross-cultural dresscodes on its shoppers world-wide?
