While I have a few well-loved blends (mostly...cast? casted?...Cavendishes; I have yet to acquire a taste for Virginas, Burleys, et cetera), I've recently started wondering if there are any other herbs I might employ for a nice after-dinner smoke. To be very clear, I am not looking to become altered. I smoke a pipe for the flavor, the aroma, the ritual. The pleasure and relaxation I derive from smoking a pipe comes from the aesthetics, not the chemistry. Anyway, I've tried googling various relevant strings, but they inevitably turn up a bunch of vendors selling "omg 100% legal budz!!!!!" Such idiocy does little to inspire confidence.

So, to the point: are there any other plants out there that are worth packing into one's pipe? Thank you.

No.

Try some blends with cigar leaf. Fox's Banker Tobacco is nice. GL Pease' Robusto is nice. I have a couple tins that have aged for several years.

Get away from Cavendishes ASAP. Bishop Burley is nice so is Classic Burley from Barclay Rex and Koko from Iwan Reiss.

You also might want to go to a tobacco shop and see if they have their own blends that might be more herby, floral, etc. My shop, for example, has over 50 blends in all different strengths and flavors.
