1. And... we're back. You'll notice that all of your images are back as well, as are our beloved emoticons, including the infamous :foo: We have also worked with our server folks and developers to fix the issues that were slowing down the site.

There is still work to be done - the images in existing sigs are not yet linked, for example, and we are working on a way to get the images to load faster - which will improve the performance of the site, especially on the pages with a ton of images, and we will continue to work diligently on that and keep you updated.

    Cheers,

Surprised no-one has mentioned Visvim yet. A Japanese brand that does very high quality footwear that fals perfectly between sneakers and shoes.
They have their own version of various styles (FBT is a moccasiin type shoes, Hockney a deck shoe, Buckminster a chukka boot). They use top materials and the quality is excellent.
I've been wearing these ones all the time recently (although they're probably too sneaker-like for here):
The toe area is Elk skin and indredinly soft, the back part is much tougher leather for support.

I've never been particularly impressed by Visvim, popular as they are among "urban" fashionistas. THe mocassin are interesting (and a lot of other companies, including Vans, are copying the designs), if ugly, but the other stuff is just blah. Nothing really original. Who cares how nice the materials are, sneakers are meant to be worn to death, no regrets, not $300 precious.

That's pretty much the point though, Visvim aren't trying to do anything completely new, their plan is to take something good, make a few alterations and make it as good as it can be. I guess it depends how you view sneeakers. I wear them often so for me it's worth paying for the best, and as I've said I think Visvim bridge the gap between shoes and sneakers very nicely.
To be honest I though this board would be more tolerant than most of the quality materials/construction=high price that Visvim suffers from.
That said it's nice to hear someone who's not keen on Visvim who gives better reasons than "They look weird!" [IMG]

I do not think that the problem with the sneakers on the photo on page 2 are the fact that they are sneakers: the problem is rather that they are the wrong sneakers. The Sutor Mantelassi ones would have fitted well, especially if the guy would have been wearing another type of jacket, maybe a light blue linen (or linen&cotton) one with white chalk stripes.
Now, what about wearing a tie when wearing sneakers?

The guy in the photo also got the 1/4 inch of cuff thing wrong, and is instead showing 1/4 inch of sock over his shoe, which IMHO looks trailer park. Wear really cool looking socks, or none.

I agree they are also the wrong sneakers.

As far as sneakers and a tie, I did it once and looked really cool--all the girls loved it and thought it was cute--but I was 12 years old at a school dance. Tried it again at age 13 and it didn't work.
