Picking a Brigg Umbrella

I think I'm going to treat myself to a Brigg umbrella for finishing my finals.

As of the moment, I think I'm going to do striped cherry wood and sterling silver hardware. Is the striped cherry too pedestrian?

For the canopy, I'm less decided. I think French Navy could be really nice. Any other suggestions? I know black is traditional, but it matches nothing that I wear.

Black is the classic umbrella colour, but I think that navy would look very nice as well. If you think that striped cherry would look pedestrian, how about getting the PoW? I have it and absolutely love it.

I wouldn't worry about coordinating a canopy to your clothes. Black's the standard color, and no one will think twice about it, regardless of what you're wearing. (Some would tell you black's the only color to carry.) If you'd rather have a different color, by all means get it, but if you like black, don't let color coordination stand in your way.

Whangee is the best handle, BTW.

What makes whangee the 'best'?

It's not just that black doesn't match what I wear; I don't generally like black.

It's the coolest. It has visual interest, tactile appeal, and it's unusual. How often do you see someone carrying one?

Fair enough.

I have a few Brigg and I find it's very hard to go wrong with the basic wood--cherry is nice, but I'm starting to prefer Hickory--with a black canopy. The sterling collar is very nice. I like to mix in a lot of color and patterns in what I wear, so find that the more eccentric canopies can push me over the dandy edge. Dark navy wouldn't be too out there. French Navy is awfully bright. I think it might look feminine.

I think whangee is a little too close to costume, but it is pretty cool.

If I was ordering another one, I'd get bark cherry with sage green or jaguar.

Well, how light is the French Navy? I thought it was kind of like a slate blue. Dark green or regular navy are also possibilities.

+1 on the Whangee

I just ordered a Whangee with a cotton/poly tartan 79 canopy with silver collar

I am thinking about getting a black cherry with silver collar as well.

I like yellow, orange or green for canopies and whanghee for handles.

Whangees are definitely cool.

They all have their merits, but whangees are never stick-throughs to my knowledge. This might or might not be a consideration, depending on what about a Brigg one finds attractive.

I have a bark cherry stick-through Brigg, and a stick-through Hermes, and I like both. The Brigg has black canopy, and the Hermes, an olive canopy. I actually reach for the Hermes more often. So, I think that a colored canopy, certainly a navy one, would be versatile enough in this modern age.

I was recently in Buenos Aries for a week, and everyone carried long umbrellas. I did not see a single compact umbrella used.

How are Hermes umbrellas compared to Brigg?

They are Brigg. I have a blue one. It is quite nice, but I think my wife stole it.
