Over the weekend, I purchased a suit from a Barney's Outlet labeled "Piattelli" and "Barney's New York."  The suit was canvassed and a step up from Barney's standard house-brand suits.  Is Piattelli itself a Barney's house brand?  Any other information you can provide about Piattelli would be appreciated.

I think Piatelli is a Barneys house label, though I'm not certain of this. I have a few Piatelli garments; in the mid-90's, they were made by Belvest. However, newer ones that I've seen are not Belvests, and I don't know who now makes them. They are clearly of lower quality than the old Belvest-made garments.

I've got a "Bruno Piattelli" suit from Barney's that is one of my best suits -- a beautiful cashmere/wool blend blue w/white pinstripes. It was about $1,500 new. I've also got a couple of very nice Piatelli shirts -- machine made clearly, but very fine fabrics and cuts. However, I've been puzzled the last couple of years though by slacks and ties I've seen -- the pants on EBay and the ties at a specialty men's clothier -- that have the Bruno Piatelli name, but the label is entirely different from the Bruno Piatelli garments I have (elegant script signature of "Bruno Piattelli" followed by the word "Roma" as I recall. And the ties don't seem up to the quality of the items I have. Thus, I had even wondered if there could be two BC's out there, or if the older one had sold out, or sold its name.

Anyway, I'm glad you posted on this topic as I've wondered myself. Given the beautiful quality of the suit that I still have and love, I've always kept an eye out for more of the rarely seen Bruno Piattelli.

How much was the Piatelli suit from the Barney's Outlet, if I may ask?

I was told the maker for Piatelli is/was Isaia.

The label was "Piattelli" in script with "Barneys New York" in block letters below, so I'm not sure it's the same maker you're thinking of.  You can check the wares out at the Barney's Outlet at Leesburg Corner Center.

It was $499 -- a good value in my book for a fully canvassed suit.  I don't know enough about suits to know how it compares with Canali, which is an irrelevant issue anyways because I found no Canalis in my size at the Off Fifth.

Piatelli is not a the Barneys house brand. Barneys just added their name to inform you that they are one of the exclusive sales outles for Piatelli in New York. I think Bergdorfs sells Piatelli too. Having the department store name is a pretty common sight on suit, dress shirt and even tie labels.

At any rate, Piatelli is a very reputable Italian brand from everything that I've heard.
