Recently I screened seasons 1 and 2 of Peter Gunn, the 1958-60 crime drama starring Craig Stevens as a private investigator and singer Lola Albright as the love interest. P.I. Gunn was a pretty snappy dresser as anyone who has seen the series will attest. One thing though. In the rare scenes where his jacket is unbuttoned, his tie is usually tucked into his trousers. Was that the style in the late 1950s? Was it ever considered correct?
