This is the riddle, I think. Ercolino seems to admit that the shoes are not made in-house. And yet the prices are astronomical. Custom-made--described on the site as, "The client selects the last shape, leather and style. I match your individual measurements to the closest fitting standard last size."--starts at $2600. Bespoke starts $1000 higher.
The styles and lasts are a cut above the usual suspects and may well all be of Ercolino's own design. But it's hard to imagine who's biting at these prices. There are an awful lot of fine options when you go above $2500. These seem more like $800-900 shoes. Of course I paid significantly less than the CA sales tax would have been here so I'm only complaining from a theoretical vantage point. But still.
Anyway, thanks for all the helpful replies. Oh, and LK, I assume the box was at one point in back of the thrift store and can now probably be found somewhere in South City.

Peterman loves to find or have made quirky, exclusive stuff. Usually, of course, it is not co-branded, but these probably came from the period immediately before the bankruptcy, when Peterman was experimenting with all kinds of things. I have a pair of Justin cowboy boots from about the same period, sold by Peterman. it's possible it was part of an effort to pick out certain American makers and sell them with the Peterman mystique.

Peterman himself might be able to offer an explanation, if asked.

If this is true, this guy could be the biggest shyster in the clothing business. Makes TB look like a boy scout.

Probably you mean there are an awful lot of options on the way to $ 2500 and a few fine options when you can bite more...
