im way late to the game here, but i enjoy tipping.

i always try to engage the waiter/waitress in some kind of light chit chat. i feel it makes their job and my dining experience more enjoyable. i rather them feel like a friend than an attendant. i dont recall this ever not working. so by the end of the evening im happy to leave a tip. its my way of saying thanks for alowing me to have more than just a good meal. plus i think they generally can use the extra 10 or 20 or 30... dollars more than i can.

Thank you. Another fucking voice of reason over the minimum wage tools who are begging us to subsidize them. Do you want us to subsidize your healthcare as well? How about giving you more food stamps? Do you want me to give you 50% of my income as well? I mean shit, I didnt earn it through good grades, studying my ass off in school, working my ass off at ACTUAL work, or anything. I must be entitled to this since birth and you deserve 50%.

Tipping isnt standard at all except in this nation filled of entitled fuck ups called America. The only other place that has more entitled fuck ups are some places in Europe. In Asia if you are too lazy to work you starve. There isnt some big brother handing out 1.5k checks a month for your unemployed ass.

And that was an angry tangent. Yea your job sucks. Sure maybe you didnt have any other choices but to be a waiter. But if you give shitty/mediocre service, demand a 20% tip, then go complain about it on your shitty blog then go fuck yourself. Why are you entitled to 15% or more of what I just spent? Because you poured some fucking water? You had "knowledge" about the menu? You checked up on us at a regular interval?

Honestly at a restaurant I dont care nor do I want to hear from you. I want to enjoy my company and my food, not you bothering me so I can tip you over 15%.

And anytime someone posts something like this the only thing dissenters have to say is "go fuck yourself", or "scumbag". Give me one reason why I should tip you.

Woah woah woah. So many personal attacks towards other members here on a topic that seem as harmless as tipping waiters.

This thread has manifested into something beyond tipping.

these words are not aimed at anyone in specific, and are only my opinions. im not stating this as an inarguable fact. they are also not how i feel in the matter, see my previous post above as to my thoughts on tipping.

    1. some people have a problem feeling they are being forced to do something, even if they really dont mind the act in and of itself. the fact they feel they are being pushed to do it makes them opposed to it regardless.

    2. some people feel if i have "made it" why cant you. you dont deserve my hard earned money as a gift, earn it yourself. and if you cant handle it tough shit. its not fair i made something of myself and because you didnt i have to foot the bill. a similar thing is found with city police here in baltimore. the ones that grew up in the hood are often the ones who act the harshest towards the ghetto dwellers. they feel that if they made it out why cant everyone else. what the fuck is wrong with them, so they go over the top with their treatment to people who didnt make it out like they did.

just my thoughts, im sure i could be wrong.

You should tip because waiters in this country actually work for tips. They don't make minimum wage. They make about 1/2 that. This is predicated on the fact that diners tip. Call it a "service charge" if that makes you feel better about it. Actually, a lot of restaurants will put a 18% service charge right there on the bill just for people like you. Don't like it? You can just pay more for your meal (the way you do in many European countries). Either way, you have to pay for service.

    You forgot that one.

Seriously, if you frequent places that make you think twice about tipping perhaps YOU are a terrible restaurant guest who can't be made happy or you should find new places to go. Either way, if you don't want to tip don't do it but don't be shocked when a majority of people think you're a fucktard

I don't mind that one bit. Waiters should get fair wage like everyone else.

Wow. What a world class MF.

Hey, eat out, tip like shit and be buried with your money you strawberry cappuccino drinking flatulent halfpenny weasel. Better yet, shove the tips in your ass. Lean it over the counter at the bank and make a deposit to the $12 an hour teller. All the low earning trash, you know, the beggars.

And dont worry cheap-o, I am actually fortunate to have the experience being a waiter taught me. Taught me how to serve.

Fuck-muches like you only serve yourselves.

    This thread is still going...

So let's add some fuel to the fire. I'm indifferent and generally tip, as my parents taught me (my mom, specifically). 10% for starters and it goes up and down as it needs to. But I don't eat out often, so it's not something that I give much thought to.

But if someone can give me a reasonable answer to this, it would be great.
    Scenario:

Two people dinning at a restaurant, being served by the same waiter/ress, same service.

    Person A orders a $50 plate.
    Person B orders a $100 dollar plate.

Say each tips 20%, so person A tips $10, while person B tips $20.

What justifies the greater tip for the $100 dollar plate, if the waiter/ress provided the same service and had no part in the making of the meal?

I actually thought we should change the title and move it to social life food and drink.
