Are those AS? Do you think they are a good deal @ Eur 330 (USD 435)

Sure likes like C&J, interior size writing would answer definitively. Just saw those listed for sale as well, pretty sweet. (Not my size)

OK, another identification question: take a look at these Peal & Co. loafers:

    http://www.brooksbrothers.com/IWCat...y=newArrivals&sectioncolor=&sectionsize=#null

I think I have read that these are C&J, and that they are built on the 314 last. If so, that would explain the similarity to the C&J 'Harvard' and 'Boston' loafers. Here are some Harvards:

Can anyone confirm that these are in fact C&J, and that they are built on the 314? If so, how to interpret the US sizing that is listed on the Brooks Brothers website? I know that I wear a 9E UK on the 314 last. The guys at Ben Silver tell me that if I buy their version of the Harvard -- which they list in US sizing -- I should go with a 9.5D US. Extending this logic, my belief is that if I wanted to buy the Peal and Co. loafer above, I should order the 9.5D US from the Brooks Brothers site. Make sense?

The frustrating thing is that Brooks Brothers is unable to give me any kind of useful guidance about sizing. I get the impression that they (or the people who deal with web customers) don't really know their own shoes. At this point I'm not sure that I really want the shoes all that much, but I want to figure this out.

I think this is actually one of the sites where I read that the Peal loafers are the C&J 314.

The size translation is not obvious. Typically it would be a whole size, as you say. But the 314 is sized slightly larger than other C&J lasts. Whereas I would wear a 8.5UK with most C&J, with the 314 I wear a 9. Then when C&J makes shoes for the US market, they will assign them US sizes. But these might not be sized large. In the case of the 'Harvard' C&J appears to use a more standard US sizing when they make them for Ben Silver. Again, in my case the 9E UK Harvard is labelled as a 9.5D US.

    If it is a C&J Peal I go 10.5D. If Sargents I go 11D.

    Hey guys,
I wanted to find out more about Peal and Co. so I googled them and this message thread came up. I've read through all of it and it sounds like there's some very knowledgeable men on this forum.
I'm in the market for a new pair of chukka's. I've tried Frye's, but apparently they have a big quality control problem because the first pair I bought had bad stitching on the inner heel and the second pair's outer sole started to separate near the toe on the right foot after wearing them for a month (these were the ones I exchanged the first ones for). Suffice it to say that I've had it with cheap footwear.
I have my eye on this pair of Chukka's from BB's. They have their F&F sale coming up on May 9-12 and i can get them for %25 off, bringing the price down to just under $400. What do you think?

Resuscitating this thread with a funny snafu and a question. I have a few pair of Peals, both C&J and AS, and have been very happy with them. I ordered these "lightweight" captoe bals a couple months ago. Just got them today.

    1. As seems common with Brooks these days, the order got delayed over and over, until finally they arrived today, a little over 2 months after ordering.

    2. I ordered a size 11. The box says 11. The shoes are clearly too small; I think I can make out that they are a 9. Obviously, a Brooks screw-up, not the manufacturer. I'm guessing they tracked down some display shoes that someone had thrown into a box without looking:

    3. Seemingly lots of shop wear on these. Light scuff marks, etc. These are supposed to be new, not seconds. But again, BB's fault.

    4. The big one: quality seems to be pretty poor. Look at this stitching on the sole:

I was initially thinking of asking Brooks to try to track down my size. But now I think I'll just return them altogether. Pretty underwhelmed.

Anyway, anyone know who makes these? From a couple previous posts, I'm guessing Loake? The writing does not look like AS or C&J, and I've never seen this poor quality from them.

Here are some more interior shots and heel pattern:

EDIT: Think I found my answer: These are Loake Holborns: http://www.bradshawandlloyd.com/loake-holborn-mahogany
