Peal & co. (bb) shoes

I think we've touched on this subject numerous times, but perhaps not definitively. Does anyone have a good sense of who made Brooks' Peal & Co. shoes at different times throughout the past 20 years or so?

I had heard that the current Peal oxfords are made by Sargent; however, I was looking at them last night ($358), and the quality seemed to be a cut above the Sargents that I've seen . . . which admittedly isn't many, and none recently.

Some current ones are still made by C & J. If you look in person, the C & J ones have the single row of slugs on the heel. The sargent's have double rowed slugging.

Sargent has a number of different quality levels, so that's entirely possible.

As for the different generations of BB's Peal shoes, back in the golden days, they were made by Edward Green. That stopped several years ago (and no, I can't quantify "several"; I would think a dozen or more, but I'm not sure). After the EG era, the label went defunct for a number of years. It was revived maybe three or four years ago with the Crockett & Jones shoes. Since about a year ago, some (probably most) of the models are made by Alfred Sargent and some are still made by Crockett & Jones.

I have a pair of BBC Peales made by Green in 1988.

I've also got three pair of BBC Peales made by C&J and they must be ten years old. Two pair needed resoling this year after no more than a day or two of wear per month.

It was the search for their maker that led me to this board.
