I wish it were the single strap.

I heavily wore the single strap version of this monk strap and enjoyed it

At $330, it was the most expensive shoe I had ever owned (it was on sale from $468).

Since I only owned 2 shoes, I wore it every other day and it got trashed (keep in mind I am a large man and wear away my shoes much faster than the typical iGent since I didn't give it enough time to rest and didn't use shoe trees (a cardinal sin by some).

I have since replaced it with an Edward Green Ralph Lauren Purple Label Montgomery on the 888 last for almost double the money (it was on sale from $1000 back in May of 2008 to about $617.

The Montgomery is a far superior shoe as to fit and construction. By the end of the day, my feet were tired on the Peal's...but no so on the EG Montgomery

Try your local RL store and see if they can find any of the Montgomeries in your size...and hopefull for a better price too.

I have since invested in upgrading my shoe wardrobe and thus have gone MTO, but would consider the single strap Peal monk again if money was a bit tighter. The double strap monk appears to informal and screams Italian design...even though it has a wing tip design and plenty of brogueing

Don't buy it...but at $260, its tough to pass up

Just because they fit you better doesn't mean they will fit him better. And perhaps the fact that your RLPLs came with shoe trees standard also accounts for their longer life, instead of the price.

To the OP- the real reason you might regret buying those is the broguing. To my eye it looks out of place and gaudy- if you were considering these at full price alongside an unadorned, otherwise identical monk, you would not choose this shoe. I would really make sure you aren't buying these just because they're on sale.

I think it's different and I believe it would work with my blazers, chinos, and dress pants. I'll hold off on it and see if it goes under $200.
