Is this combination ever acceptable when the jacket is single-breasted? Are shawl lapels similarly banned from odd jackets aside from smoking jackets?

I think this is the general rule, but I fear I might be missing something. Might someone more knowledgeable contribute?

It's too gimmicky for me. Peak lapels on sports coats is a current fashion trend that will soon pass. I think they're fine for single-breasted suits, but the formality of peak lapels is out of place on odd jackets.

IMO, barring exceptions (DJ etc)

Peak lapel on SB = Notch lapel on DB

I order most of my sport coats with a peak lapel.

I had a navy one from Armani about 5 years ago, pre-SF. It was an experiment that didn't work well for me, I kept it for one season only. I now feel the same way about sb peak lapels as I do db notch lapels.

There is no jacket that can't be made better with peak lapels

I like it, I can't see why not either, conservatism has its place of course but I think this combo works. It's just fun to mix it up sometimes. And life is about having fun, yes?

Acceptable? Banned? If you like how it looks then get peak lapels. There are no "rules". There is what is considered traditional, but most of the "rules" stated here are just people's opinion and it's ok to have fun even if your opinion differs.

nothing wrong with peak labels on SB jackets. However, it looks better if the lapel width is made proportional to the wearer (bespoke). I will stick with peak labels for db suits or outerwear coats for now.

Indeed, it seems to be an issue of style. If you're rocking a slim fit sport coat and a slim pair of trousers, then you can pull it off.

If you're an average guy, with full break on the pants and a 42"+ chest, then you should skip them. They look like an old guy trying to be young.

Its like long hair, if you can pull it off, then its amazing. If you can't, its a disaster. If in doubt, leave it to the pro's.

I agree with this, even if you're an older guy: if you're in decent shape ,you've got some wide-ish peak lapels on a well fitting jacket, and you absolutely own it, then it can be done.
