Peacoat recommendations for short people?

Hi guys,

Can anyone here recommend a peacoat that work on shorter people (I'm 5'8".)

I'm only 22, so I'd like something that doesn't reflect too mature of a vibe.

Something tailored and slim...maybe something with an exagerrated collar even?

All recommendations are welcome!

Thanks!

I'm in the same boat, I'm only 5ft7, no pea coat is short enough for me.

Personally, I'd just get the sleeves and body length shortened. Any competent tailor or seamstress should be able to do it.

From what I've heard the body length is really really tricky to alter on a coat, so I'd like to get the length right the first time. However, the sleeves shouldn't be too tricky.

Well I think I've seen a couple of pea coats that are shorter in length on purpose. It never hurt to look around a bit. You can always go for a 3/4 length one too, if you're okay with that style.

I'm 5' 8" also and have been looking at the Sterlingwear pea coats. They offer them in S lengths.

they look nice, and good price too.

I'm a 36S, would you guys get a 34S so that it fits properly?

I was under the impression that they already fit snugly. If you size down, going for that effete look, you may have to move the buttons a bit. And how will you be able to fit a sweater under there if you go tight? (obviously if you don't live in a place with a real winter it doesn't matter)

SW short is 31.5 inches from collar stitch to bottom. I'm 5'9" (which I maintain is not short, btw) and it fits me fine. I'm a 39 but often wear 38 coats--I tried to size down to a 36 and it was way too tight on me. I looked stuffed.

34S should indeed fit you great and leave some space for a sweater or something similar (like a hoodie

In a word, yes. I'm also 5'8" and my Sterlingwear peacoat in a short length looks great. And by sizing down I achieved a great fit, even though I'm a pretty muscular guy. By sizing down you'll get a coat that's fitted, but still boxy and roomy enough to not look effeminate.

Brian SD did the exact same thing, and got a great fit as well. Check out his picture in one of the Streetwear peacoat threads. He actually mentioned considering going down two sizes next time to get a really tight-fitting peacoat (which of course effects a different look). But the point is, going down one size should still leave you room to layer and to move around.

Do you get the "Authentic" or the "Navigator?" Which do you suggest?

I'm on the heavier side. Will wearing a peacoat (being double breasted) make me look bulkier than I already am? Coz I definitely don't want that!

I bought the Authentic. I don't have any personal experience with the Navigator; it's 100% wool, which is nice, but I don't know how it fits compared to my model. So with that in mind, I recommend the Authentic (as others have before me, I believe); for the price, it's hard to imagine being more pleased with a peacoat than I am with the Authentic.

I think DB cuts actually hide weight. Single-breased cuts don't cover up as much and thus can give the impression of more bulk there. With DB it kind of covers up everything -I find it can be slimming.
