Peacoat Alteration Question

First off,

Sup StyleForum. First post on this site after a bit of lurking. I live in chi-town and go to college elsewhere for most of the year.

I recently bought this coat from saks:

I dunno if I just have slightly shorter arms, or whether designers just love making clothes for people with monkey arms, but the sleeves are just a bit too long for my liking. I know that it's a coat and the sleeves are supposed to be a bit longer, but these are just a bit too long for me.

Does anyone know if it's possible to have sleeves on a peacoat shortened? It's a fairly thick peacoat, only reason I am skeptical.

Any advice much appreciated!

It would depend on the construction of the sleeves more than the thickness of the fabric. The sleeves in the photo look rather unusual.

Also, a peacoat that doesn't even cover your ass? Come on.

I had the sleeves shortened on my Paul Smith peacoat when I bought it without a problem. Remember it was cut and stitched together in the first place.

Try having it taken in from the cuff seam, so you still have the full cuff; the wool/lining shouldn't be as thick there either.

I would have gone the other way and recommended shortening from the crown; it may cost more, but it renders any alteration scars invisible. Shortening at the cuff would mean trimming and re-stitching at a highly visible area.

I have the same problem. I have a big neck and big chest but regular arms, so many of the things that buy me in the neck and chest are invariably too lose the waist and long in the arms.

I had a peacoat altered. I don't remember where they took the material from and don't really care - its invisible and didn't cost much at all.

whats the fuss its just a sleeve to be shortened.
there is a strap or tab that will be moved up when the sleeve is shortened.
thats all there is to it.
