Given that navy is the traditional colour of peacoats in regards to naval use, it's proven to be quite versatile. The particular colour you ordered is more akin to black than the shining navy blue portrayed in the pictures J.Crew provides, so you would be able to match it with just about any colour of jeans. I have the charcoal version in size small and I wear it with a lot of raw denim and generally dark denim and it goes along wonderfully. While at school in recent weeks, I often pair it with a pair of 484 chinos and leather desert boots and I always get compliments. Chinos, raw denim or whatever, you're good. I think you made a sound decision!
