Hi, I'm new to the forums. I've been reading for a month or so, but I finally signed up. Anyway, I was going to ask about the fitting of a peacoat. I'm in California, so multilayering isn't likely (probably a dress shirt and then the peacoat itself... any more and it'll be TOO warm). Is this the "right" fit? I've read that the shoulders are the most important part of fit and so I made sure they were in line with my shoulders. I will adjust the sleeves if everything else looks alright. I'm 5'10", 152 lbs. Thanks in advance for your input. It's great to see and be part of such an active forum.

(oh... that mark on the sleeve = lint on my cell phone camera lens, haha)

Thanks for the welcome!

Yeah... I know, Cali... (generally) good weather all year! It can get cold (plus I'm a stick lol) in the mornings and evenings. That's why I figured I wouldn't wear a blazer/suit jacket with it bc it would just be too warm. I work in a business casual environment, so that too is a factor.

The reason I originally posted was because I'm reading mixed answers regarding whether or not the "right" fit is to make sure you can fit a suit jacket underneath. Since the pea coat has a timeless style, I wanted to make sure I was buying a timeless, correctly fitted pea coat.

Looks good! Who's the maker out of curiosity as I've been considering a slim fitting pea coat.

it's RL Polo, size S. I thought I would fit into an M, but the M's shoulders went over my shoulders (about 3/4 of an inch to an inch), so I went with the S.

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
