Had a paypal user scam my paypal account out of 340 bucks. There is absolutely no way i am going to pay it, and even if i wanted to, i couldnt afford that right now. Thrown right out the window.

Now, what im wondering is, and im pretty scared about is 1. How likely is it that they would send collections after me? 2. Is this going to affect my credit, having a negative balance?

The account was linked to my bank account and my credit card (expired this month), and the address is my old address.

Dude bought two pairs of boots off of me, but im guessing because i didnt add the tracking info for the first pair, he thought he could get away with saying i never sent them. Well in the dispute i included all tracking info, messages he sent me that said he had both boots, etc etc. and paypal still ruled against me. It was complete bullshit

as well, the auction specifically stated insurance was only up to 100 bucks, and he filed a dispute for the 340 bucks before i could even check with canadapost

they will send it to collections - do they have your social security #?
it will probably hit your credit too...
that's why you can't give paypal any info
FWIW - for future disputes - if the guy's being an a**hole and you need a tracking number showing delivery, send him a new package - a cheap envelope with signature confirmation - it'll cost you a couple of bucks, but once he signs for it, he just signed his case away...

I had a similar situation happen to me for like $100. I refused to pay it, I think they might have sent it to a collections agency, but I still said it was BS and I wasn't going to pay it. It never showed up on my credit.

f**king paypal with their bs 'seller protection'

let me reiterate, it is supposed to work as some form of insurance to the seller if he follows all the rules of transacting and shipping out a package.

then conceptually, insurance is supposed to cover the seller if not at fault, the coverage comes from the supplier of the insurance.

here, paypal if cannot work against the claim of the buyer, and the seller is not at fault, they still will pull the money out of your account.

and
worse, which happened to me, even when paypal ruled against the claim, the buyer did a chargeback on his credit card, and then the cc took paypal's money, so paypal took my money.
in the end it was bs, because if i have 'seller protection' , they should have covered it themselves.

not really - I spoke with a Paypal executive escalations supervisor and he told me that Paypal has no say when it comes to a chargeback...whatever the credit company says they legally have to do, so even with their BS protection, if the person paid with a cc, you're screwed.
Any payment website would be the same...even though they all preach "seller protections"...

to answer your question, THEY WILL SEND TO COLLECTIONS absolutely... AFAIK you are only protected if you do the following: FULLY INSURE every item you ship (what level of insurance the customer paid for is irrelevant) Items under $250, you need Delivery Confirmation. Over $250.00 you need Signature Confirmation Any deviation from this will leave you effed in the case of a dispute.

+1 to this. What people often seem to overlook is that the transaction you have with the customer is different from--and is defined by different regulations than--the transaction you have with Paypal. It doesn't matter at all what arrangement you make with your buyers--if they say they don't want insurance, or don't want to pay for a more expensive shipping method that provides delivery confirmation, etc. If you don't insure packages valued over $250 and if you don't get proof of delivery, Paypal can take your money because that is the agreement that you've entered into with Paypal, whether you've read the details or not.

On a related note, if a buyer buys two things from you and pays you twice through Paypal, you need to ship two separate packages in order to be covered.
