Paul Smith socks

I was wondering who makes the socks for Paul Smith. They say made in italy, but that is it. Also, I noticed there is a stiched line on the back and bottom of the sock, why is this? I have never seen it on another sock before. Thanks.

MAde in Italy, eh? Paul must be cutting costs again. In two seasons they'll be made in China. They used to be made in Britain by Corgi.

Interesting comment since much of Paul Smith's clothing has been made in Italy.

BTW, how do the English get those dogs to make socks?

All my Paul Smith socks say made in Japan and are of very high quality. I guess Paul Smith sources all around the world.

more of Paul Smith's line seems to be made in Italy these days. I have a mainline suit and shirts I bought in the mid 90s which were "Made in England", and all the mainline seems to be "made in Italy" now. Not that I see that as necessarily a drop in quality. Comparing high end to high end, is "Made in England" on top of the "made in" hierarchy, over Italy?

Well, it all depends on what we're talking about. England has a series of world-beating suppliers. But, Italy seems to have a broader artisanal base, like the cottage industry that produces Borrelli et al shirts.

PS are mostly factory made, I'd imagine, so Made in Italy probably just means lower labour costs, which ought to mean better prices but probably just means higher profit margins.

Most Paul Smith tailoring was being made in Italy. The socks until recently were made in Wales (I thinK) by Corgi. I've seen $100 Paul Smith T-shirts mde in China at Saks. Sad that the "True Brit" designer has nothing made there anymore.

But as soon as you formulate a question, you're playing by the mind's rules, like it or not, clearly or through a glass darkly, tricked or otherwise....

And the requirements needing to be met to label something "Made in Italy" are not very high.

Just bought a dozen pairs off Ebay. All 100% Merino wool. About half say Made in Turkey, and half have no Made in markings at all.

Note, this is NOT the seller I purchased from, and the auction did NOT state Made in Italy or Authentic. The retail price on the socks is marked 12 pounds.

I payed little enough for them that it doesn't matter, and I won't really be upset, but can anybody comment on the authenticity of these?

here here well said, if more so called designers used their local manufacturers it would lead to a better quality of product and support the economy too!
