Getting a s/s sportscoat made up in linen, cotton/cash, etc.
Debating whether to get patch pockets or standard flapped.
I like the patch pocket looks but wondering if it's a current trend or considered at all classic.
Maybe someone can breakout that i-gent SF cycle thing.
I'm now seeing them on house brands at bloomingdales and other mid-tier makers, not sure if that signifies anything.

If it is a trend - I can't see it ending any time soon. Not sure if I've been caught up in the whole i-gent hype cycle but I think twice now about buying an SC is if doesn't have patch pockets [IMG]

    It's possible they're both.

Just make sure you're getting them because you like them and not because SF says you ought to like them. Also consider whether the tailor you're using makes attractive ones. Many are terrible.

I like them sometimes but not always.

really dislike the patch pocket design. Unfortunately it doesn't seem to be abating.

I don't know whether they are trendy or not, but they look like crap. They should be called "crap pockets." Because they look like crap.

my favorite sport coat is my cotton/linen patchpocket. i hardly view them as a trend. Classic styling is never a trend....we're talking patchpockets, not lapel flowers. [IMG][IMG]

IMHO I think they convey a much more casual look, though granted if done well they can give a rakish flare. I always seem to envision patch pockets on a blue sack coat with lapped seams and a hook vent, as worn by a loosened-tie teenager skipping class at his prep school.

I love the three patch pockets look on a linen cotton suit...

+1, patch pockets with flaps are the very worst pocket option of all. (I'd rather have besom pockets and I abhor besom pockets.) Simple ("un-flapped") patch pockets are nice and understated, however. I have them on a couple of my nicer sportcoats.
