Passive fragrances

What fragrances do not require heat or wind? I'd like to find something to put in my closets and the car. Preferably something natural as I find all the fake fagrances by Glade, et al unpleasant. I bought a bag of dried lavender but it's not very potent. Pine chips seem to be very effective but are messy (if overturned).

Closets should be lined with cedar. This is standard, as it is a natural moth repellant.

In your car, try sprinkling a drop or two of eucalyptus oil on a cloth kept for the purpose every week or so. A friend of mine recommended that it be sprinkled in the carpet, but I find that this gradually causes a build-up of unpleasant-smelling rancid oil. That's why I'd recommend a cloth of some sort that you could wash every so often.
