Passing Up Deals

Recently, I've managed to coax my fiancee into accepting the modern aesthetic for furniture. She actually approves of my design ideas and contributes constructively (it's our money and our house, .. so to be expected). Rarely, however, will she see a piece that she's truly in love with. Needless to say, the Moooi Paul Smith Bottoni was her idea, which I'm quite fond of. Since we're still in the fledgling stages of our decorating, there's a lot of room for manipulation and changing things around certain pieces. For instance, our bedroom (where the Moooi currently resides) is completely neutral excluding the armchair; this will soon change as we will be painting the room likely a variant of mauve. In any event, the reason I'm actually posting.. one of the other chairs she's fallen in love with is the Le Bambole '07 by B&B Italia. We found a deal, that I can probably knock down to 60% off of retail for a new denim armchair and ottoman.
The dilemma: I really, really like the chair. It does not currently fit into our living room scheme as our rug is the Midnight Angela Adams Islands rug which is a lighter shade of blue than denim.. and it just wouldn't work. So ultimately, it may end up in the spare bedroom which is a faux-office or the other guest bedroom in the corner. All that being said? Should we? It's a good deal. It's unlikely that we'll find a deal on this particular piece again and.. we are very fond of it. I think we'll probably go ahead and ROBOCOPZ it but I am curious as to the opinions of my board compatriots. Ever passed on a deal on a piece of furniture (on sale, eBay, CL, etc.) that you later regretted? Ever gone back and paid full price?

If you're going to start a collection buy it. If you're just looking at it to fill a current need or want, leave it.

My SO and I are trying to collect specific classic pieces and if I could get a deal on one that I had been after even if it did not fit in our current "scheme" I'd still buy it. even if i had it in a room I never use I'd be happier knowing I have it than worrying if I should have gotten it.

I didn't understand anything you posted in your first two paragraphs, particularly some nonsense about painting your bedroom mauve (btw, WTF? mauve?)

However - re: passing up deals: few regrets (regretted purchases more than non-purchases), and have never gone back to buy at full price. If it doesn't work with your design aesthetic, you can:

a) pass
b) buy and change the surroundings
3) buy and accept an off-kilter element to the room, which isn't always bad.

If it were me, I would pass. And, putting something like this in a guest room is not happening in my house, either, unless it was a killer deal.

Thomas, the first paragraph is mostly in reference to a recent post of mine in the Recent Purchases thread.. new chair, etc.

Honestly, I think we (if I could swing another 20% off) would buy this and forego the sectional we were looking at for a 3-seater, change the rug, and maybe add another chaise/armchair. The idea is that we're starting a collection; that is part of the draw of the piece.

Yes, but...mauve?

ok, enough of that.

If you like this chair that much and can wrangle enough discount out of it to offset the cost to replace the rug, then I'd run with it. The lines are clean, the colors are versatile, and it looks rather comfy although I know people who couldn't care less about that.

Actually more of a deep purple, I need to get a swatch of the fabric and take it to a paint store, to be honest.

Well, if you like it there are a few questions you must ask, namely:
Is it raw (role reversal for light fabrics!) or one wash?
Is it selvedge?
What kind of fades will this get?
Is it vanity sized and how much stretching will occur?
Is the denim and hardware high-quality?
