Passed on some Brioni ties, did I miss out?

I was recently in Saks Off Fifth while traveling and they had a big rack of Brioni ties at $100 for one, and the second for $50. (And a couple remaining Charvet ties for about $65 before special discounts, but in no patterns I liked).

I ended up passing on them because this was actually my first in-person exposure to Brioni ties, and I was a little bit intimidated by their width. They seemed far bulkier than the 3.25 ties I up till now have tried to stick to, and so I ended up buying some slimmer Saks Fifth Avenue brand ties instead.

Since I don't have an Off Fifth in my area I can't go back, so recently I've been considering this very closely as a learning situation. 1) I'm starting to think I've been limiting myself negatively by not opening my eyes to slightly wider 3.5 inch ties. Are Brioni a staple width, or are there other brands of similar quality which offer a slightly slimmer design? 2) Are Brioni ties at this price such a good buy? Or are there sources from which I may find them at a comparable or lesser cost easily?

I don't think you miss anything at all.

If you know what you usually wear, then it is good for you. Do not become a brand whore like some of us who buy items just because the brand name. I have learnt this in a hard way and I wish it would have never happened to me or anybody else really.

The only thing that matters is that you like the looks of it. And never pay over 10 bucks for one. And you do that by always buying used; it's decoration not underwear.

You totally missed out. You should probably just kill yourself. End it. You don't want to live the remainder of your allotment of days on this earth as a person who makes such poor decisions.

Update your rolodex, amigo. Kevorkian is out of business.

Seriously, OP - If you are comfortable with 3.25" ties, and you saw these that were 3.75", and you would hesitate to wear it if in your closet, you made the right move. Does not matter if they are Brioni, 100% Bijan, or thrifted. You gotta like what you wear.

Don't buy ties that are too wide just because they have a 'Brioni' tag on them.

That being said, there are some Bijan ties for sale in the B&S section that you can pick up to feel better about your decision.

You should at least try it on and see if it works for you. For a while I got used to wearing slimmer ties (~3") all the time, but then I tried some 3.5" and I really liked them. I like having a variety now, so I can go slim or wide depending on how I'm feeling that day.

What's the IMPACT FACTOR when you casually flip your tie around in a sprezzatura way to show off your brand tag?

Saks Fifth Avenue just doesn't have it.

"Brioni", now that's where it's at! [IMG]
