1. And... we're back. You'll notice that all of your images are back as well, as are our beloved emoticons, including the infamous :foo: We have also worked with our server folks and developers to fix the issues that were slowing down the site.

There is still work to be done - the images in existing sigs are not yet linked, for example, and we are working on a way to get the images to load faster - which will improve the performance of the site, especially on the pages with a ton of images, and we will continue to work diligently on that and keep you updated.

Trying to plan a surprise bday party for my girlfriend. I would like to avoid the plain jane house party. Anyone have any suggestions? Ideally something relatively inexpensive for all guests, easy to coordinate, with booze, not necessarily dinner. I was thinking of a boat cruise on the Potomac (I'm in DC), but it is looking pretty pricey.

Any ideas? DC people especially since you all know the area?

How about renting out a room at a trendy club -- think Felix, Gazuza, Mantis, Local 16, etc. Â Some places will not charge a fee if you can guarantee a certain amount of alcohol sales. Â I'm sure the Washington Post's Going Out Gurus will have some good ideas if you ask them a question in their chat tomorrow. Â Look through the Going Out Gurus archives as well; this question comes up quite often.
