Man, I found this coat XS at a local store and the fit / cut is amazing. BUT it's $800 and I'm not so excited about the fox-fur.

Any suggestions for good winter parkas that fit / look like this and don't break the bank?

mlyngard,

On the Spiewak site it says that sizes 30-58 on some of them, do you know if that means they make down to a size 30 chest? I googled around some shops and everywhere was just selling sm, med, large, etc. not numbered sizes, do you know of any places where they have a full collection/size 30-32 coats?

That's an awesome parka...wish I had the money to shell out for more APC outerwear. Although I generally like APC's designs on outerwear, I can't believe that thing is $800...APC isn't exactly the best in terms of construction and fabric. Hell, I could buy Krane outerwear with that...

As for Spiewak, it's definitely a good brand for the price. I had the Pearson duffle from them and it was one of the warmest coats I had, and the fit is actually pretty nice too. Loved the hell out of it but got too big for me.

N2-B's the shortwaist parka. If you want the full length, it's the N3-B, and I think the fur collar really caps the look of a parka, I wouldn't get a cold weather one without it.

Honestly for something like that I'd just go with the original mil surp version. I haven't heard great things about Spiewak, and the fit's still a bit bulky. If you don't want that rugged a look you can still find basically the same thing, more trimmed down and with a cleaner styling, in mid-range lines that would still be of serviceable quality or better.

What's with the surprise? APC isn't cheap. I bought a Trovata jacket last year that was 750cdn/695us, and this has fox fur. I see Mackage and Acne outerwear going for the better part of a grand too, along with all kinds of other brands; it's like the 4-digit shoe, it's just the new price point.

I didn't like the fit of the Spiewak N3B. I found the zipper not entirely ending at your chin, extremely annoying. In other words, when the jacket is completly zipped up, the zipper lines still persist as if you could zip up the coat and it would cover your entire face. Instead, you'd have a zipper at your chin and a very unflattering spread collar. Asides from that, functionally, it was extremely warm.
