Parkas Appreciation Thread

Didn't see much posts about parkas that we are wearing. So please post them here and share your experience.

I will start with my few parkas for Canadian winter.

Love this coat from Descente, wearing it mostly to my office. Pretty warm, great water and wing proofing.

Woolrich Laminated Parka. Unlike their famous Arctic parka this one is covering your neck much better. Very warm, although I would wish for more wind proofing. When windy it gets easy underneath so you need to wear some warm pants. Suppose to be waterproof but didn't test it much in wet conditions.

And this crazy warm waxed parka from Company of Adventures, this kinds of their parkas were only produced for one or two years. Bought it about 7-6 years ago still wear it occasionally for some winter walks with kids.

Thinking of getting parka from Arcteryx: Therme or Thorsen haven't decide yet.

Great idea for a thread. I've admired your parkas, particularly the Descente one, since we don't need insulation down south. I've grown to like parkas since this pic of Noboru Kakuta, "the Master":

I wanted one that would be more visible to cars and was very happy to see that Ben Sherman made one in "oatmeal" (proxied by the kind @Cleav):

It's rubberized cotton, like a Mac. Great jacket. Covers my rear or a sport coat, but I wish it went to mid-thigh. I may ask Luxire to make a Ventile version that's longer, has higher armholes (this one's a bit low), and has snaps to receive a quilted jacket.

When the it really gets cold it's extremely comforting to know I have a good warm coat when I have to go outside. If your active layering is they way to go about it, however when your not planning or have to be that active it's even more important to have that coat that keeps one warm. And when the hawk is blowing having a hood and that fur is just as important. Canada Goose for me.

Three slightly different styles. The Forester without a hood, the Borden Bomber, and the Expedition for a full parka.

Anyone had experience compare Arcteryx with UBR? Looking for more suit under, fitted coat heavy duty with a hood.

also any recommendations for a good implementation with M65 with a hood (I have one escape jacket from RLBL which I love but doesn’t have a hood, Monitaly had something but it was a lot more rugged than tactical)

100% recommend the Veilance Field Jacket. The insulated one, not the shell, for your purposes.

Yes, it is sleek for a field jacket and that should suit your style. They usually offer it in black and a seasonal color.

I'm thinking of getting the Hilltrek Schiehallion Ventile Cagoule:

In an off-white color. Not sure if it'll be Stone in the medium, L24 weight, or Moon in the lighter, L34. I'll probably ask them to delete the hood drawcords, exchange the velcro for snaps (or "poppers" as Dave called them on the phone), and add a drawcord at the waist.

Anyone have any experience with Ventile in the L24 or L34 weights?
