Pants with tabs AND belt loops- Why?

I've been seeing more pants with both? What is the point of that; doesn't it look dumb?

Personally I find that if you're not going to wear a belt, you have to be wearing pants with no belt loops. I've had a bad experience with removing belt loops in the past; I could always see the stitching remnants. As a result, you should have side tabs. However, when you have both, your waist looks too busy and you look like you forgot to finish getting dressed.

I guess many of these pants that have this combo are more casual in nature, because I've mainly seen them for Ralph Lauren and Rag and Bone, to name a few. And so chances are you won't be tucking in your shirt. But it still remains that it looks dumb, and if you do want to tuck your shirt in, you'll look idiotic.

It's just for choice, and I haven't seen the exact pants you refer to, but I presume they are more casual.

A lot of old denim has a buckle on the back as well as belt loops. Let the crusty old miner decide for himself.
