How does one determine how many inches the waist can be taken out on a pair of suit pants? I'm looking at a new, unaltered pair from a suit I just bought, but since I'm considering eBaying it I'd like to be able to add that deal. I hope this isn't really obvious and that I'm a not moron for asking.

In -- figure 3" without messing up the pockets.

Out -- look at the back center of the waistband (the seam). You see that there is waistband fabric folded under. Figure you need .5" of fold on each side. Any more on each side, and that's how much you can take out (for example, if each side has 1.5" of fold over, you could take the pants out 2" total -- as there is 1" of excess on each side).
