Howdy,

I'm a big fan of this website and askandyaboutclothes, but this is my first post.

I'll be Ecuador in March in Quito and Guayaquil. Sadly, I don't think I will have time to go to one of the master hat markers out in the boonies (bonnies?)

But this leads to two questions:

1) Anyone know a good haberdasher down there for Panama Hats? Hopefully not one of super bleached ones from a factory?

2) And this may be overly mercenary, hopefully a moderator can correct me if so, is anyone interested in me grabbing a hat from such a place?

And now back to lurking.

You can get panama hats literally anywhere in Ecuador, from the markets upwards (I got a prefectly decent hat for £7 I think it was, lasted years, at the market, it didn't enjoy being rolled too much though) there is a famous shop in the capitol that sells the full range up to the £500+ ish several months of master craft work jobs... and I can't for the life of me remember what it 's called. sorry.

Thanks.

Was it "Homero Ortega & Hijos" or "Maqui"?

I think I'll keep it relatively conservative and aim for a $100 dollar hat. Which is, what?, um, about £130 right now?

The radio was all a buzz about England being the next Iceland. I think you are all going to be fine.

you'll see hats everywhere, I can't recomend any specific spots, but in the new city you see them everywhere.

I would seriously consider a leather coat, too. in my opinion, better quality at better prices than argentina.

Thanks,

I hadn't even considered a leather jacket. But I do need a black one.

Leather goods in Argentina did surprise me...I suppose after the currency went back up the deals disappared.

It surprised me how many times I was cajoled on Avenida de Florida in Buenos Aires about jackets, perfume, or cabarets.

I walked by FM Allen the other day and they had some of the most beautiful montecristis I have seen in a long long time. In the States at least....I've never been to Ecuador, unfortunately.
