Why have I found it so difficult in recent years to find on-the-rack pajama bottoms that are not too long? I'm 61 so have been purchasing pj's for many, many years but lately it seems the pants have been getting longer; could this be? I'm about 5'8" with shoes - not that terribly short - and not really overweight, yet I find A's typically aren't large enough and B's may be large enough but the pants are almost always too long (e.g. 42-43" waist to bottom). Sure I can have the pants tailored but it doesn't seem I should have to do with this every blasted new pajama bottom, nor would the millions of other guys in the world who still weare pj's and are my heightt or shorter and heavier than I am.
It doesn't seem to make much difference - cheap pairs or a Brooks Brothers. Any ideas as to common brands of, say, flannel, that might be at a Macy's, Penney's, Sears, Kohl's, etc? I go the the stores now and measure with a tape measure - a bit clumsy. I also try them on in a dressing room, when possible. So far no go on this round. Took one back to Target already.

I don't understand the aversion to hemming them. Do you really buy so many pajama bottoms that hemming them would be such a drag? It'd only cost a few bucks from a local dry cleaner, and for something simple like that they'd have it done same-day. Or if you have a sewing machine you (or your wife/husband/manservant) could do it in a few minutes.

mytailor.com will do MTM pajamas. I have never ordered any, but there is a group of people who are into their ($400!) linen PJs.

The only way I would consider getting MTM PJ's is if I was going to a party at the playboy mansion.

One would assume that the booze would be complimentary at a playboy mansion party

I guess you didn't see the word "wurd" in the beginning of my above statement.
Translation-if invited to the Mansion, I would get MTM. Since I have not been invited, I won't get MTM and spend my $$ on booze! Ya follow?

I sold some Borrelli PJ's in the B&S last year that were way north of that on retail, and have some Charvet in the B&S now with a retail of $775 !!! Triple patch pockets, MOP buttons... I guess when you have everything else covered, you need something to go with your Edward Green house slippers.

But to answer the OP's question, I'd lust get them taken up. Taking it as a given that this is what you have to do and spending the $8 will set you free of having to whip yourself into a lather over the issue. You can then choose the best pants you can find and know that they will fit just like you want them to fit. If that's your biggest tailoring problem, you're getting off easier than a dude with shoulders so funky he absolutely can't wear OTR coats and has to have them all made (which you might also have to deal with, but you get my point).

Anyhow, my .02
