Pairing w/ black cardigan?

I got this thing a week or so back, my first of such, and I'm wondering what to wear with it. This example isn't planned but it seems ok. What would others rec to wear with such an item?

Well you always could pull the standby, and wear a white button down.

Or wear a saturated blue indigo chambray with charcoal trousers. Or a light lavender tee with denim. Go monotone with grays. Wear a jacket over it with nice shoes. Wear it open with a white tee underneath and baggy lounger trousers to slum around your house.

There's lots of things you can do wear it how you like.

I did wear it with a collar but it didn't really feel or look right... to much protruding against the slim fit of the cardigan. Also, I'm asking about colours, I suppose. My complexion is fairly accurately rendered in the pic...
