Yes, dress pumps were worn. But dress pumps are not oxfords as we use the term today.
You just wrote above Shoes were for women. Men wore boots with closed facings and Around the turn of the 20th century, men's dress became more casual. The lounge suit slowly replaced the frock coat, and the low shoe eventually replaced the boot.

Opera Pumps are not boots, and clearly seen in my quote in 1846 the OXFORD shoe was a casual walking shoe...

History my boy, history...

OK. Have a great day.

Honestly this forum used to be amazing with many knowledgeable people. Now there are underwear reviewers who argue with me about things they just Googled.

How condescending, I read it when it first appeared in The Gentleman's Gazette in 2019...

You think your knowledgeable but your are obviously not....

To me, that's more coherent, stylish, and cooler than this choice
I notice you did not say wrong. If at the end of the day, it comes down to a personal aversion to the lack of two small flaps for laces on shoes when paired with odd jackets and trousers, regardless of whether the shoe has a ton of brogueing, suede/grained upper, rubber sole, or any other hallmark of a casual shoe, then it appears to me that there is no rule here, just an unusual aesthetic quirk of yours.

Cotton is terrible at holding dark dyes (especially along the seams), which is why I stick to wool and linen (or blends of the two) in general. My point was that from an aesthetic point of view, it does look good.
I do cede this, but I'm not exactly breaking the bank in choosing LE, as they (the charcoal ones in my case) can be easily replaced once faded.

Holy crap. Look again.

The action of attacking or assertively rejecting cherished beliefs and institutions or established values and practices.

Notice in red "or".
As I wrote previously:
You literally excluded the entire mid-section to create your own meaning of the word. The aforementioned "rule" is in no way an established "belief" of this "institution", either way.

depending on the color, though, that adds to the character. After all, isn’t that the premise of “Nantucket red”?
Sure, but I prefer linen for that vibe.

As long as you don't need it to look pristine in the long run, cotton in dark colors will do fine of course.

It's about the same as it always was, imo. I'd just recommend not getting into long discussions with people who think they know, but don't.
