Pairing a waistcoat with a beige suit for 'Gatsby Look'

First off, I've been a long time reader on these boards, but finally created an account so I could actively participate.

Secondly, I am attending a work event of which this year's theme is Gatsby (the main evening anyway). While I'd love to go out and buy and brand new 3-piece tweed suit just for this event, that is not going to happen.

After having just watched the movie to get some fashion ideas, I have decided to wear a beige 2-button suit, skimmer hat and bowtie, and would like to finish it off with a waistcoat to really put everything into the 1920's period.

Since the suit did not come with a waistcoat, I have ZERO intentions of trying to match. I was thinking perhaps a darker brown or burgundy would be the best way to go. I've found some brown herringbone waistcoats that look good by themselves, but not sure if that would work with a beige suit.

Tried googling for images, but can't seem to find much on odd waistcoats paired with beige suits.

Looking for some ideas here..

Thanks!

Not an expert on this but wouldn't wearing a contemporarily styled suit, regardless of the colour of the waistcoat, destroy the Gatsby effect entirely?

I can't see a two button suit coat with a waistcoat being anything but anachronistic. I suspect you need at least three buttons and the waistcoat needs to have five buttons and a "high gorge/stance(??)"

While I agree with DWFII that you would be far from historically accurate, I think as long as the brown of the vest coordinates well with the tan of the suit (there are warm and cool shades of brown -- you'd be better off with both being warm or both being cool), you're okay.

That's assuming the context is an office party with a theme, not a party where the theme is the main thing (like those Jazz Age Lawn Party events they have in Manhattan).

If you could swing wearing a point-collar shirt with a collar pin and a large-scale paisley tie, that would be cool too.

I'm not that worried about wearing a modern era suit to a Gatsby-themed party. Truth be told, I'd guess that the majority of the male attendees will be wearing black or gray suits with nothing even remotely resembling the 1920's. I just thought I'd try to take it a step further by adding something to give my suit a little extra Gatsby feel.

I wore a Tattersall waistcoat with a light brown suit (with pleated trousers) last Friday. I don't know if this is a "Gatsby" look. It's the way that I have always looked,
