I purchased a navy linen/cotton blend sport coat recently and i am having trouble pairing them with pants. This is actually my first sport coat and was planning to wear it this summer. The jacket has a herringbone pattern and i was hoping to wear them with a pair of charcoal gabardine dress pants. any suggestions would be appreciated.

If it's mainly a summer coat, you should probably pair it w/ lighter colors for the summer -- white khakis/chinos, for instance.

WTF is this thread? You're having trouble pairing a navy coat with pants? Are you colour blind or just marsupialed? That's like saying you don't know what to wear with brown shoes.

Clothing fail, back to wearing jeans and t-shirts for you.

I generally don't do the trouser, jacket mismatch, but I always thought navy and charcoal would go together in that combo, but I saw a guy the other day sporting it and it didn't look right. Having a blazer and trousers a different color, but equally as dark, just didn't look right, it was like he was trying to hard to make it look like a suit, or he got dressed in the dark. I think a medium grey, or tan, taupe, or white would go much better.

You should wear it with pants that are a darker shade of navy. Make sure the pant leg covers the heel and stacks; this is very GQ these days.

Definitely agree with this. Keep it a bit more casual & relaxed.
