Packing a Trench-Coat

I will soon be going on a trip for several weeks, and as spring approaches, I feel I'll need rain gear. I have a Burberry trench I'd quite like to bring, but very limited space. I find after some time in a packed container it tends to wrinkle badly. As well, there's always the possibility of theft.

Would I be better off with a smaller, cheaper rain jacket of some type? Or is there a way to pack to avoid or deal with the wrinkles?

If you pack it, it will wrinkle. I've never found a way around it.

1. Wear it
2. Double bag in dry cleaners polythene
3. Get a jiffy e steamer, will be worth it on a long trip if you don't have access to cleaners
4. Consider a lighter raincoat than a trench coat, like the Mac Michael Caine worse as Harry Palmer or Cary Grant wore in Charade.
5. Forget the Mac and get a brolly

I have a nice trench coat too, but it takes up 1/2 my business trip suitcase. I've learned to place convenience over style in this case and take my Gortex rain jacket. It's long enough to cover my suit jacket plus a few extra inches and has a hood eliminating the need for an umbrella. Rolls up about the size of two pair of socks. I pack it on every business trip.

otherwise my advice is this, just get something thin and waterproof and seal it in a ziplock bag and squeeze out all the air.

I dont know how much space you have but one way is a large plastic resealable bag. If you fold the coat lightly and place it in the bag sealing it to keep a bit of air around the coat it will stop the clothes in your case crushing it causing creases. Its works great with suits as well but as I say it depends on the space you have available. Also light trenches crease less than heavier ones. Have a great trip whatever you decide

Once the rain hits it, wrinkles will disappear.

I always carry mine. Goes in overhead compartment on plane if attendants won't hang (means if you're in the back of the plane).
