I stopped into the Ralph Lauren boutique in Les Cours Mont-Royal yesterday afternoon and was browsing their linen button downs at $175 - All "Made in Italy" blue labels.

I didn't spend more than a few minutes as I was annoyed by the salesman following my every footstep through the shop, but I noticed that all of the blue label linen shirts I was browsing through were 'Classic Fit' and I was curious whether PRL offers all of their clothing in Custom and Slim Fits as well?

For example, there was a carmel pink and chateau navy linen shirt that I was eyeing, but would've liked to have found in a slimmer fit. The online site is somewhat useless as it doesn't offer their full range. There was also a white linen shirt with rolled up sleeves and epaulets which was quite nice. I don't know if it's the "ranger shirt" but I'd like to find that in a slim or custom fit as well.

Anyways, I'm wondering if anyone can tell me whether all of PRL sport shirts can be found in all variety of fits, and whether there's otherwise any difference in make, quality or any other distinction between their Classic and Custom Fits? Similarly, how much of a difference is there really between these two styles and what about the "Slim Customs"?

I am only interested in the Blue Label "Made in Italy" line, and specifically in the classic linen sport shirts. Is $175 rack rate a decent or average price btw? I'm thinking of going back to pick up a couple of these shirts, but I want to better understand the fits and what's offered first, because I'd much prefer to find them online if I can buy safely, knowing what I'd be getting. If there were any way to track down the exact same Classic Fit linen shirts that I saw in their retail shop the other day, in a slimmer fit (those baggy linen shirts can really only be worn to the pool/beach with a pair of trunks) I'd be all over them.

Would appreciate any help with this -- Thanks!

I'm wondering the same thing. All I know is I finally tried on one of their classic horsey oxfords that fit like a Gitman Vintage (at last!); turned out to be a lady-shirt.

PRL definitely makes shirts in different fits, but not every shirt is offered in every fit. Only some models feature the slimmer cuts. Browse ralphlauren.com to get a general feel for it.

Thanks, and what about the linens specifically?

I'm cautious about the RL website because I don't see the Made in Italy labels in any of the photos and wonder if that means that either the quality or make of the shirts differ from what I'd seen in their boutique? Some color ways are absent altogether. I'm not really sure what I'm looking at comparably as a result.

Can anyone confirm whether $175 for a classic fit linen sport shirt (button down) seems a reasonable rack rate? That seemed to be their pricing across the board. I guess I could always just go back and try some on, but the sales people are so obnoxious the way they attach themselves to you and harass you constantly while browsing that I'd rather not. I may try Holts or HR instead.

I don't have as much experience with PRL linen shirts, unfortunately. But I would imagine they follow the same general rules as the rest of the PRL models.

Ralphlauren.com doesn't have every item in the entire catalogue available on it, unfortunately (would that were the case!). I suggested browsing the site more to get a general view of the differences in models and cuts.
