There is an ugly rumor going around that Tom James suits are made by Oxxford. True or untrue? Some of the newer Bespoke Tom James suits look nearly IDENTICAL to Oxxfords in the lapel area. Info?

They are owned by the same company, as is Individualized Shirts. Might they share some styling cues? Yes. Are they the same thing, No.

Are you sure? I heard that the TJ Corben suit was made by Oxxford.

I have MTM pants from Tom James. They reside unused in my basement. My Oxxford trouser hang proudly in my home office dress closet.

Two entirely different constructions.

Only the top of the line from the Tom James offering is actually made by Oxxford. None of the 4 or 5 price levels below that one are.

Absolutely not.

That's like saying a BMW 3-series is a Rolls Royce Phantom. They're the same company.

I saw a Tom James salesmen in my building this summer. He had on a nice summer suit, blue striped shirt and a nice woven tie. I was kinda digging it and I thought to myself, maybe I should see what TJ has to offer. Then I looked down on his feet and he was wearing strappy mandals. Without socks.

I've had some Super 180s slacks (Tom James Ventura Line) and I'd say they're as good as Brioni. Hand stitched seams, buttery tropical weight gabardine material, handsewn waistband......really nice. I'd say they're every bit as good as Oxxford and Brioni. I've also acquired some of the bespoke Ventura suits.......superb construction.

Actually, that's not an accurate statement. See my post above

May I add that one gets Oxxford construction but
(a) prices are insane on that line (nearly $4k/suit if I remember correctly)
(b) you don't get the Oxxford experience or any sort of interaction with the tailors/cutters
(c) you get fitted by a total tool salesman with a faux-hawk and a candy-striped suit
(d) you only get one fitting! (yes, they call it bespoke...

)

All in all, a very bad idea. If one wants an Oxxford custom suit, one is much better off going to Oxxford

They are not the same, though numerous EBay sellers would like you to believe differently. However, they have the same parent company. Also, some have suggested that the top line TJ -- Ventura perhaps -- is made by Oxxford tailors, though I think this is based more on (i) great fabrics used by Ventura and (ii) the large amount of hand-work in the Ventura line, than factual information.

BTW, today I'm wearing a pair of TJ MTM slacks in wonderful doeskin wool which I bought about 3 years ago. They are great, but were expensive. Today, I'd rather buy instead a pair of Oxxford or Incotex Sartoriale slacks on Ebay or at Neiman-Marcus's Last Call sale for the same price (or less).

This is what TJ categorically claims. I also inspected a TJ suit from the Ventura line which I was told by the TJ rep was made by Oxxford. It looked and felt every bit like the Oxxford suits I have seen before and like the one I used to own.
