Hello -

Went to Woodbury Common yesterday on my way here upstate. Saw some nice Oxxford Crest suit @ NM Last call. Nice handword and fabric. So the price after all said and done will come out to be around 860 or so plus tax, is this too pricy? Can I do better on Ebay? The Oxxford Crest suits I tried on fit much slimmer and better than the regular Oxxford I tried on ( the Gibbons model).

thanks

You might get it cheaper on eBay, but probably not a whole lot cheaper. Maybe for $600, depending on your size. But there's something to be said for getting to try it on, not having to hunt, etc. And it would still be a good deal at $860.

In short, I'd say, it depends how badly you want to save $250 or so, and how much you like the one at Last Call.

If it is a good fabric and color , that is a great price. It is very rare to come across color staples on ebay for Oxxford in NWT.

Not too much, too little! If you like it you should try to find it at full retail price so you can enjoy the 'experience' of shopping retail.

I regularly pay double what I can get an item for by going retail. There is nothing like a salesperson putting the jacket on me, pointing me toward the mirror and telling me how great I look. If that is not worth and extra $1,000, what is ?

Personally, I prefer to imagine I'm paying the extra just for the mineral water. Nothing quenches a million-dollar thirst like a $1,000 bottle of water.

Thanks for the tip. First thing tomorrow morning, I'm getting in the car and heading to Woodbury Common.

In all seriousness, whether or not it's "too pricey" is a matter of opinion. If you would think an Oxxford Crest for $860 is a good value, and you like the fabric/fit, then buy the suit. If you think you could find the same suit on ebay for less, and are willing to wait around who knows how long until you find it, then go that route. But know that it could take you quite a while to find the same/similar suit ... and you could be sniped at the last minute. And the suit might not be perfect ... and you couldn't try it on before you bought it ... and so on.

Oh, what the hell. If I were you, I'd buy it.

Oxxford Crest for $860 is a great deal! It might take you a while to score one for less on ebay.

So I went back on the way back today. Unfortunately I decided not to pick it up, I was told by the nice lady @ the sales section that they would get more Oxxford crest around October time and marked down more. I will hold out until then. However, I did pick up this Isaia sport coat though ......

Ah...yeah...like the sales person who tried to sell me a black suit when I told him I was looking for something for an interview?

Or the one who saw me checking sleeve length and said I could have it let out, when clearly it needed to be taken in?

Or the one who said a jacket fit me perfectly and disagreed the collar needed to be lowered, even though there was that darn wrinkle in the back that my tailor makes magically by lowering on the collar.

All of this, and more, at finer mens clothing shops in NYC. So, I'm getting what for that $1k?

All of that said, there are some great salesmen out there do provide the extra service of style consultant, but they are few and far between. Mostly, I have taken to using salesmen only as walking mannequins to check out cothing combos I like, because if there one thing that can said for the salesmen at most of the finer mens clothing shops in NYC, they can dress.

Liks Doc said, you could lurk on ebay and perhaps find one for $650, but then you do not get to try it on or touch it.

Also keep in mind that Oxxford has a lot of models, so you may like this one for $850, but dislike another.

All and all, $850 for a $3000 suit is not bad, that's over $2000 off. At that price you are likely paying below wholesale and perhap may be close to what it cost to produce the suit in raw materials, labor and overhead. All and all, not a bad price for what you are getting.

So, it depends more on, can you afford $850 for a suit (any suit) and do you love this suit enough to pay for it"”regardless of the maker. If you are buying it simply because it is a good price"”then think twice about it, remember the most expensive item in your closet is the one you do not wear.

I cried when I read this thread. I think I've seen one Oxxford in my size on ebay in the past year and I've rarely seen an Oxxford Crest on ebay in any size. Since the Crest is the only Oxxford model I would wear and my Crest is my favorite suit, I would gladly pay $860, and probably twice that, for an Oxxford Crest in my size and a color that I like. And you passed!

Because of my size (36S), I can't regulary get anything regularly on Ebay for low low prices as some forum members suggest is possible.

Things are worth what you are willing to pay.

I would pay well north of $1000 for Oxxford, Isaia, Kiton, Brioni, etc. that fit me properly. Only you can say whether you would do the same.

ah, I know, it was a tough call though....... The suit was amazing, except it was a long , and I would really like a regular. I am 6 feet, and can get away with a long size, however, the waist pockets of this suit sit a bit lower than normal suits I see, so the long size makes the pockets sit just a bit lower than my waist. I was ready to get it , but the nice sales lady talked me out of it, saying the suit ought to fit perfect for this kinda of money...... please don't make me drive back, please
