overseas interview

Hello,

I have been invited to an interview overseas (Europe). Travel arrangements are going to be made and taken care of by the company. The position is not necessarily going to be at that location/country/continent The interview is on a Wednesday so I would have to take all week off from my current job.

My question is, would I be overstepping some boundaries if I request to leave like Friday night and come back the the next week Saturday night? I mean, they are going to be paying for a ticket anyways, if I take care of my arrangements of where I'm staying the company would not have any higher of a financial obligation. I have to take the time off work anyways, might at well be able to explore the area for a few days.

I'm still very young, early 20s, so maybe I'll have a better chance of pulling this off then an established professional. Maybe I can spin it as being more interested in the area/company (even though the location is a bit irrelevant) or recognizing an opportunity and taking advantage of it to get more of what I want? those are good things right? lol

Sounds like a big company. If that's the case, there is no harm in asking. The travel/finance section that arranges your itinerary will have little contact with the operations area. The interviewers will have no idea when you arrive and when you leave, unless you volunteer that info or they ask about your plane ride. If the company does a lot of international recruiting, it will likely have set policies around this and deal with these requests frequently. Tale advantage of the free trip bit make sure you give yourself a full day of downtime before the interview to get your head around the time change and culture change.

Explain the situation to them. I don't think that it's unreasonable, but I'm not the one who's paying. Neither are any of the other members here, so ask the people who are.

just ask them if you could depart early so you could meet and stay with a family or friend with perky nips...

I do it all the time with my established firm, but I would just ask for a first time interview.
