A couple of years ago my friend gave me some of his dad's suits, pants, and coat shown here. I've never worn it thinking perhaps it was too dated (actual date I believe is like 1983 on internal tag) or perhaps a little "off" with the fur and sharp shoulders.

What are your opinions on this coat?

thanks.

As they say; Whats old is new again.

IMHO I think this coat is a wonderful throwback that you'll have a terrific opportunity to modernize with a dark suit(Navy or Black) white or light blue shirt(nice cutaway collar (my preference), finally a colorful tie:

Mixing old and new, I really love.

I'm sure many will have different opinions than my own. Some will like this coat and some will hate it. Just remember, style is a very subjective thing. I say as long as its not something completely outrageous like a zoot suit, just wear what gives you confidence and what will make you stand out from everyone else; in a good way of course LOL

Be Well

That coats pretty pimping. I would wear it, I would just be careful when I wore it as I am not al Capone, but no it is pretty cool and not too dated.

With alterations to improve the fit, I don't think it's dated. It's not my taste but YMMV.

Thank you folks for the immediate response. Someone requested maker so here's the label and I did confirm that date was Oct 1983.

I have no idea what the fur is...were you joking when you said grizzly 8)

It is an ugly rag of a thing. Whether you can get away wearing such a garment and one which is so unfashionable will be entirely down to you and the circles in which you mix. I would suspect that you have been given it because it is so awful.

it's badass. I'd pair it with a russion style fur hat.

GBR,

I was given everything as the gentleman passed away and they fit me reasonably well with minor alterations.

My 'circle' would properly think I look weird with the fur. If I dressed for them I'ld be wearing sneakers and jeans most of the time LOL; but I dress primarily to impress myself, then others. So within my means I like to dress better than that.

As i stated, some will like it some will hate it. I'd say you can pull it off with those recommendations i gave you earlier. At the end of the day , do you like it?
