Overcoat sizing: actual measurement vs. tag size

I understand the actual chest measurement (armpit to armpit x 2) of a jacket is usually 2-3 inches larger than the tag size to allow for free movement. How about overcoat? I'd say the allowance would be larger than that of a jacket. So what's the proper difference between the actual chest measurement and tag size for an overcoat?

it varies. Some makers will tag a EU46 to be worn over a EU46 suit, thus the size will be closer to a EU48. Other makers will be "true to size", a 46 to fit a 46 chest.

I thought all overcoats are sized to be worn over a suit. Or at least the two that I have which are definite one size too large if worn without a suit.

Overcoats are generally cut to be worn over suits, but manufacturers cannot seem to agree to a standard for size. I wear an Oxxford 44L, but a RLPL in 44L is way to small.

If you are looking at coats in person, you need to try them on. If you are buying on eBay or elsewhere, you will need to compare listed measurements to yours and remember that there are still variances depending on how the seller measured the item.

It's an Oxxford overcoat on eBay, the actual measurement is only 1.5 inches over the tag size. However, the tag size is one full size larger than my size, so the measurement is 3.5" over my size.

I am not familiar with Oxxford overcoat fit but it seems tight even to be worn without a suit at the stated size. Try to cross post this at AAAC as they probably have more members that are familiar with Oxxford fit.
