Hi guys

Going to a sub zero temp country for the first time.
Some questions, hoping you guys can help.

1) Any idea where to buy overcoats in south korea at this time?
2) what type of overcoats should i buy? I want to wear it for business, over my suit.
3) With reference to 2) above, do people wear the overcoat without the suit? this has bearing on the size. afte doing a search, i read some people buy one size down. i wear a 38R.

Thanks.

Shinsegae is the high-end department store in Korea. It will have most labels you are familiar with. Second to Shinsegae is Lotte, which is everywhere.

I would ask a local or a concierge for a suggestion on a tailor and have one made. This can be done for realatively cheap and if you get a good tip you can find one that stocks fine fabrics. When I lived in Korea I had a lot of my clothes made. I imagine you are going to Seoul or Busan, I will call one of my friends over there and see if they have any suggestions but they are not the types to seek out fine clothes.

Also, Migliore stocks fine clothes but can be somewhat disorienting to people not familiar with Korean marketing. The area known as Apgujeong in Kangnam Gu is where you will find the D&G, Ralph Lauren, YSL, Gucci, Prada, Dior etc. stores but they will not be offering goods at any significant discount in comparison with your country of origin though Apgujeong does have hundreds of smaller independent boutiques. Have fun, I love that country!

As for the temp, it is normally compared to Wahington D.C. and I agree with that. It is cold at times (now), but not insufferable.

Living here in Korea, it can get quite cold but then again you don't have to deal with severe wind chill factors as the weather can drop several degrees below 0 celsius.

As a word of caution, the import taxes here in Korea are extremely high and thus you would be better served buying a coat back at home, should you have the options. You can buy pretty much everthing here but at a higher premium should you wish.

As for custom made coats, there are many tailor shops within Seoul. Othello is a MTM shop which specialized in suits and coats and there are also many shops specifically for custom made dress shirts. Prices will vary so be sure to take note.

It's getting cold as we speak, as Korea (Seoul) experienced some light snow today.

hi

i am back. ended up blowing US$600 on an all cashmere overcoat. from lotte. the overcoat is a korean brand, not international (those are far too expensive). the overcoat looks like a suit, but knee length. almost every guy i saw in korea was wearing something like that.

wonder if US$600 for an all cashmere overcoat is a good buy? it was marked down 50%.
and realised that some of the cashmere was "stuck" to my khakis. is this normal? or did i just grossly overpay for poor quality cashmere?

thanks.
