I recently purchased this overcoat. It appears a tad large. Obviously, the sleeves need to be shortened. The shoulders also seem a little wide, particularly on my right side where you can see a little dent on the sleeve when I raise my arms. Any thoughts on whether I can make it work, and, if so, what alterations should be done?

The shoulders look fine to me. When deciding on an overcoat, to me at least, the most important criteria is comfort. Is it easy to put on/take off when wearing over a jacket? Is your movement constrained while wearing it? Also, having it too fitted will wrinkle what you're wearing underneath.

Is that a Sartorio from Yoox? Out of interest, what size is it, and what size do you normally wear? It looks a little large, but you don't seem to be wearing a jacket underneath -- hod does it fit over a sportcoat?

I actually am wearing a sport coat under it. It is a Sartorio from Yoox in size 50. That is my size more often than not, but I occasionally wear a 38/48, depending on the maker.

I would take in the shoulders a bit, trim the sides slightly, and then thin out the sleeve. As a personal quirk, I'd probably also cut off an inch or two from the bottom of the coat. Including the sleeve length alterations you could get all that done at a good tailor in NY for about 150. Not sure if you could ever make the bat wings go away though.

Then it's definitely one size too big. Send it back or sell it here or on eBay (you might even make a small profit as the last yoox price was great for an item like this).
