I've been looking for a fitted overcoat that goes well with both dress pants as well as jeans (I don't normally wear suits). I picked up this Ike Behar from Nordstrom Rack for $250, retail was supposedly $600. It is a 40L, SB with 4 buttons, it was the only one like it in the store. So what do you guys think? I guess I would have to have this taken in a little bit if I kept it? How about sleeve length, what is appropriate for an overcoat? Would I be better off looking for something in a 38R and having the sleeves let out? Any advice is appreciated.

I think it looks good. The white specks are a little distracting, but I really dig the large herringbone pattern on it. A 38R might fit you a bit better, but it doesn't look like you're swimming in the 40R. Will you be wearing it over sweaters or other bulkier items - something to consider if you decide to get it taken in.

How would it look with all of the buttons done up? With the bottom one undone, it makes it look long, or that the buttons are too high up. I think with overcoats, it's acceptable to do the bottom button to keep the chill out.

Good fit, actually. You were wise to snatch that up. I'm hoping to find a decent 6x2 for this winter. A peacoat is only so versatile.

If it's a long and judging by the sleeves, he's probably around 5'11 or 6', I'd guess.

Definetely get the sides taken in, unless you really like your clothes loose. Cuz right now it looks a little loose on the sides.

I think it looks fine. You need room for a suit or sweater anyways.

Thanks for all the responses.

As for height, I'm a hair over 6 feet.

I'm not going to wear this over a suit and I don't usually wear bulky-type sweaters. Probably I would often just wear a button-down underneath, sometimes with a cardigan or v-neck (the winters in Seattle are pretty mild). Basically I'd like to have something like a long, warm sportcoat.

Do the shoulders look too wide to use the coat like this?

Good luck finding double breasted at all. I've been trying to find a camel one without breaking the bank.
