Outerwear - Trad or Pitti?

In the way of outerwear what do you prefer - traditional SB or DB wool/cashmere/camelhair overcoat - or the popular Barbour style worn over suits by stylish men in Italy and by unstylish detectives in British drama series.

I have both and am trending towards the latter in navy for some reason. Something a bit different I suppose, plus often has zip-out quilted lining so can be either warm or used as a lightweight shell jacket.
