Crap. My wife had Sex and the City on last night (syndication) and one character said to the Sarah Jessica Parker's character something along the line of "What do you mean you don't have any money, you've got eight thousand dollars worth of shoes in that closet!" That's probably 40 pairs for her. My total is now at 11. Not too shabby, but still growing even though I have no more room in my closet for shoes, at least pairs I plan to wear.

How many pairs of shoes do you own? For purposes of clarity, include athletic shoes not used for athletic pursuits and leather sandals (if you have them), but exclude your gym shoes and flip flops. I know we had one of these polls before, but I think we lost it. And some members are new, or have seriously stocked up since then. You know who you are!

Blahniks and Choos are far more expensive than you give them credit for... 800 US and up boots. 600 and up for regular shoes. IIRC, thanks to many an ex.

In my opinion, this poll would be more interesting if the shoe collections were broken down into categories. For example, how many (a) dress shoes (for dressy outings and business), (b) casual shoes (for weekends, shopping, etc.), and (c) specialty shoes (sneakers, hiking boots, etc.)--or whatever categorizing scheme made the most sense. I would find it somewhat uninformative if they were all lumped together. However, that's just my $.02; others may feel differently.

I have 12, but I am severely lacking in quality shoes. This is one of the areas of focus in my wardrobe over the next year or so.

Aha. For some reason I was thinking $400 a pair, and then proceeded to screw up my math.

Roger, I hear you, but it's a little complicated to split up the categories in one poll. Feel free to start another thread or threads.

I'm in the 21-25 range. I've averaged one new pair each month in approximately 16 months since finding the forum. The other 5-9 pairs are Nunn-Bush and Rockport models that I no longer wear and should donate.

I've reached the point where I pass up great deals because I won't be able to fit the shoe into my rotation (e.g. a shell cordovan Alden blucher for $173 is still on the store shelf because I don't think I'd choose to wear it instead of my Polo Darlton wingtips). Now I need to save my pennies and target specific, higher-end models that I want/need (e.g. EG and JL).

An $8000 shoe closet is not much. A few EGs/JLs and 1 or 2 bespoke shoes.

Funny how one can have so many shoes and still spend a few minutes each morning thinking I just don't have the right shoes for the outfit.

I'm at that point too, but mostly because I don't have the funds to keep this up. I have less than twenty pairs though, I consider my collection to be well edited
