i find many sock makers dont adequately adjust the length of the calf tube to reflect foot size. if you have a big foot, the calf length should be quite a bit longer than the smaller sizes.

The length and the width. Men with bigger feet likely have wider calves as well. While socks will stretch to cover a wider calf, it "eats up" a lot of the length, leaving them with insufficient material to reach the top of the calf and largely defeating the purpose of OTC socks.

Do you think its an issue of length? Are they not reaching over your calf properly and therefore not staying up?

Yes, exactly. So far, all of the socks have been able to stretch to accommodate a 19" calf, but then they're an inch or two short of the crease of the knee. I think I have to size up to the max offering, leaving the Y stitch or heel of the sock on my ankle, just to get enough length.

I'm surprised this is such an uncommon issue. I'm 5' 10" and while my legs are large, they're not the largest in the world. I'd imagine a lot of shorter guys have even thicker legs and must run into this.

My best socks are Bresciani Linen OTC size 11.5. These are the only ones that don't move at all for me, even after washing.

DL-

I often wondered if I was the only one. Yes, the Bresciani Linens seem to stay up better than any sock I've ever worn.

I've tried any pair I've come across, I have big calves (50 cm+ circumference) and nothing works. Not Bresciani, not Palantino, not any no-name brands, nothing is able to go over the calf. They end up on the widest part of the calf and consequently fall down quite quickly. I've just given up.
I'm currently wearing mid calf socks by Bresciani, although they end actually just below the calf. Works great for me, they stay up, they're long enough not to show any leg while sitting and bonus, it eliminates the issue of trousers getting stuck on the socks.

I suppose there are worse fates than being limited to mid calf socks

I find Falke to be the best. I’ve tried all the different styles, and although all good, Tiago is the best. Great quality socks.
