I worked at a expo for Orvis over the summer and prior to the job I had never heard of them. I did notice that they were pretty expensive and was able to pick up a nice cardigan for about 70% off. Their sweaters and a few of their more casual blazers impressed me, other than that nothing really caught my eye.

Is Orvis worth the buck? Is the quality on par with the prices?

Orvis is alright quality, not bad for the money, but the styling is... older. If you like the "sporting tradition" and its accompanying preppiness, or fly-fishing, Orvis is a good bet.
Their sportcoats etc. are v. traditionally American in cut, and so somewhat boxy, with single vents - I'm pretty sure everything's fused.
Their sporting clothes, etc. are what they are, and likely fine for that.
If you want embroidered corduroy pants or a madras blazer, probably the right place to go.

Their website sale section gets pretty cheap.

EDIT: johnapril, everyone's entitled to their own etc.

I am looking at this and getting totally depressed. Â This thing. Â This Orvis thing. http://img126.exs.cx/my.php?loc=img1...eal2fb18bd.jpg
I almost bought that very item, but my friend got to it first. You are entitled to your opinion, but that cardi is sweeet. Â I'm partial to seude elbow patches on casual blazers and they look great on this cardigan. Â Again, if my friend didn't find it first it would probably be one of my favorite cardigans. Eric
