Ordering online...offshore cc#'s

So Im thinking about ordering from a certain made to measure HK shirt company that is somewhat controversial on this forum... I noticed that they recently offered Visa and Mastercard options for purchasing new shirts. Has anyone tried this method? Is there any risk of getting my number stolen by ordering from them?

If you could share your experiences, I might pull the trigger in the next week or so.

If your credit card has a temporary number feature I suggest using that. The MBNA credit card version is called "Shop Safe". Essentially it lets you create a unique number specifically for that one transaction. Also keep in mind that Jantzen does not have a secure server, so no matter how much you trust them, you will still be sending your info without encryption.

Another option is to drop a check in the mail. HK is only 85 cents away...

Im impatient and don't want to wait the extra week-week and a half for my mail to reach HK. Anyways I called both of my banks and neither offer the MBNA function. Has anyone successfully faxed JT or mailed them? How did you go about filling out the order form? (9 pages could take awhile).

I'm not trying to convince you to do anything that you're not comfortable doing, but I would bring up an argument that Bruce Schneier, who is one of the foremost experts in cryptography and computer security, has made about this. Your real protection from fraud is the combination of law and lender policies that limit your liability for fraudulent purchases made with your credit card number. Jantzen Tailors may not have an encrypted order form. That just means that your number can be more easily intercepted between your computer and Jantzen's. If I wanted to steal credit card numbers, I would't bother trying to sniff for unencrypted packets traveling between a buyer and a seller; I'd just hack the seller's site and steal numbers en masse. The most sophisticated armored car transport system in the world does no good if the money is put in an unlocked and unguarded filing cabinet once it gets to the bank.

Spot on - the chances of somebody listening in on your internet transactions in order to steal credit card nos is next to none but is a popular subject in the media.

On the other hand, you are trusting the staff that runs Jantzen's web site in addition to Jantsen's staff, who you have to trust anyway if you are going to do buisness with them.

This data is probably never stored on the webserver anyway. When you press Submit, the data you entered is most likely passed to a CGI script that e-mails all the info to Jantsen so it's their mailbox that's probably where the risk is. Of course the webserver could be logging the requests to them and the proxy server at your isp's could be logging them too but it's not a big chance to tak, all in all.

If in doubt - just fax them your number.

K...quick update. My citibank card actually offers the temporary account numbers and even gave me an upgrade/lower APR when I called

So I should be able to provide some info on a new shirt in about two weeks. BTW, I ordered a tapered fit lilac 120s for a wedding I have in about two months. Now where can I find a decent pocket square for less than thirty bucks...
